Depending on the way you see the world, you’ll either see Valentines as just another way of extorting your hard earned or as a day to show you’re loved one just how much they mean to you. Surely you can do that anyway? There are 364 other days in the calendar, you know!

As, this year, the 14th February falls on a Saturday, a lot of you will be planning to spend Valentines Day at Birmingham bars. You might be looking for somewhere to spend a night with your beloved, whether for a quiet one or a rowdy night out, or you might be out in town, keeping an eye out for any talent or simply just getting on one with your mates.

To make a big impression this Valentines Day at Birmingham bars, you might want to consider the delightful Bacchus Bar. Located in the basement of the Burlington Hotel on New Street, it might not be the first place that springs to mind, but if you’re after pretty surroundings and the chance for a bit of intimacy, you may well find what you’re looking for here.

If you’re planning on partying anywhere around the Broad Street area, there’s always O Bar and Below for some nocturnal thrills and spills this Valentines Day at Birmingham bars. Here you will get looked after by the staff and be able to work your way through their extensive cocktail menu. You can even crack open a bottle of champers and do it in style.

If the thought of all the hustle and bustle up on Broad Street brings you out in a cold sweat, get yourself down to Digbeth, it’s much more chilled out. One of my favourites down here is The Medicine Bar. As soon as I walk into the Custard Factory complex I feel at home. Depending on what’s on you might walk into a drum and bass rave-up or a techno party. Whatever is going on, just being able to chill outside by the central water feature is good enough for me (weather permitting). Whether you’re single or with someone, you can’t really go wrong with spending Valentines Day at Birmingham bars down here.

Finally, I don’t want to rule out the fact that some of the more romantic (fools), sorry, amongst you, may fancy not spending a small fortune this Valentines Day at Birmingham bars and, who can blame you? In these credit crunch times, whether you’re single or in a relationship, you might want to find the best offer in town. Look no further than the Briar Rose, as part of the Wetherspoons chain you can get a pint for an unbelievable 99p, a rum and coke for £1.29 or a whole bottle of wine for £3.99. Your missus might not be impressed with the surroundings, but for a cheap date or a place to get plastered with your mates, you’re onto a winner.
