The ViewBirmingham Review
Home to some of the Birmingham’s highest profile dance events, you can usually find a good rave here. Rarely are there any problems with the sound or production, and people frequently travel from afar to see leading DJs perform at Air.The VenueSituated just off Digbeth High Street, around the corner from the Custard Factory, Air is a custom-built venue for full on 21st Century raving. It has a great sound system, high-tech lighting and visuals. As you enter there is a cloakroom and bar, before you hit the main Oxygen Arena, then, upstairs, is the Carbon Lounge and the Nitrogen Room. An outdoor smoking space is available outside just off the main arena, with a secure car-park around the back.
The PeopleDepending on the night you may find a range of outgoing, seasoned clubbing veterans and cyber-fairies amongst the normal crowd. Everybody that attends this club will be there for the appreciation of the underground music and the love of a good party. The door staff are always friendly and the bar staff helpful. Rarely will you find a bad atmosphere here and, if there is one, the doorman are quick to disperse trouble.
The MusicThe venue hosts a number of different nights, including its established events of Godskitchen, Poly-Sexual and B2T, nights where you'll get a range of all the best club classics, hard dance, techno, trance and drum and bass. There are frequent appearances from big names such as Eddie Halliwell, Micky Slim, Tidy Boys, and Lisa Lashes, as well as many other big-name acts.
The DrinkUnfortunately, as is the case with many of these large dance venues, drinks prices are a little steep. But there is at least a wide range and they don't fail on quality. Beers average about £3 for a bottle, brand name spirits and mixers costs about £3.50 and bottles of water are about £2.50. For those hungry after kicking out time there is always the burger stand providing food for those that can stomach it and hot drinks to fend off the morning dew.
The Last WordIf you are in need of a serious blow-out, while avoiding the typical student masses, and music to make you rave until dawn, then Air can be as good as anywhere else in Birmingham. Rarely will you be let down by the night, especially if one of the big events is on.
