A remarkable film, gripping from start to finish. The horror of the prison culture and the brutality it breeds are graphically portrayed, but somehow there's a tiny flame of humanity which keeps you engaged and hoping that 'the Prophet' survives.
One word in the subtitles confused me at first: 'the hacks' here means prison officers. I had never heard this term before (except when applied to journalists), whereas I guess most people in UK would understand 'the screws'.

Film of the Week

The Conjuring (15)

Hugely enjoyable, genuinely scary horror flick that provides a welcome throwback to classic 1970s chillers, thanks to impeccable production design, a superb script, powerfully atmospheric direction, intense set-pieces and terrific performances.
