Details I did not like. The heroine seemed to have an endless supply of lipstick - surprising in 1944 Holland. More importantly, with the allies already in part of Holland, and Paris liberated, the collaborators would be trying desperately to cover their tracks and not still be cosying up to the Nazis. The firing squad scene was very unconvincing, the German gunmen could have turned their rifles on the Canadians, and the condemned man would have not lamely stood there to be shot, no blindfold, not tied, no protests from him.

Film of the Week

The Conjuring (15)

Hugely enjoyable, genuinely scary horror flick that provides a welcome throwback to classic 1970s chillers, thanks to impeccable production design, a superb script, powerfully atmospheric direction, intense set-pieces and terrific performances.
