Highly ambitious - most films stuggle to find one good plot, but this movie sets out to develop three, albeit inter-connecting. It does work - although the third storyline ('15 years later') doesn't quite have the same impact as the other two. Gosling is mesmerising and haunts the rest of the movie in his absence. The direction and the photography are excellent. The pathos of the characters is handled just right - never sentimental but the film is truly moving when it needs to be. Perhaps a tad long but, nevertheless, sit back in your cinema seat and enjoy...

Film of the Week

The Conjuring (15)

Hugely enjoyable, genuinely scary horror flick that provides a welcome throwback to classic 1970s chillers, thanks to impeccable production design, a superb script, powerfully atmospheric direction, intense set-pieces and terrific performances.
