Sports aren’t the only thing on offer at this popular chain bar.The VenueSports Cafe is on Broad Street, you can’t miss it for the large American-style signage and clear glass windows showing everything going on inside. A small bar area is to the right of the main entrance with a dining area to the left. To the back of the bar is a large function style room that holds special events during the week and downstairs there are huge pool tables for £5 per hour or £1 per game.
One of the things you will notice on entering are the TV screens, to be more specific the number of TV screens. This bar is all about sport, at every angle you can see a full screen, when you sit at a booth, you have your own screen and, yes, when nature takes its course there it is again right in front of you. The bar is very much a traditional sort, dark wood built and old fashioned style foot rails; the decor is of course sport related and various memorabilia such as Formula One car noses and classic signed football shirts garnish the walls.
The PeopleA varied type comes in here, not just your typical blokes to watch the footie, but couples and groups of girls looking for a game of pool or to sample the food.
The FoodThe food is above average with various burgers, grills and sandwiches offered. Its £7.45-£9.45 for all kinds of burgers and the most expensive dish is a sizeable dinner for any meat eater - a half rack of and 8oz sirloin steak costs £15.95.
The DrinksThe venue’s best drinks offers run Sunday through to Thursday, where several drinks cost £2. This includes pints of Stella and Blackthorn, house doubles and a mixer, Jagerbombs and more.
The Last WordSports Cafe is clearly aimed at people who love sport but it’s not just that, it’s a great place to drink or eat, and the sport is a bonus.
