The ViewBirmingham Review
Hidden away on the Kings Heath high street, in the suburbs of Birmingham, is this gem of a Thai restaurant. Siam is an eating experience you'll never have had before. The VenueWhen you walk into Siam it’s like walking into someone’s house and eating in their dining room. There are a few tables and comfy chairs and it’s intimate and cosy.
The PeopleThe homely feel extends to the atmosphere where the traditional chef may just be cooking for you and your guests. It leaves you feeling a bit special and almost like an A-list celebrity. Siam is the perfect place for you to spend an intimate evening or take the family.
The FoodIt's best to go in to the restaurant before you eat or look on the website and pre-order what you fancy. This is so the chef can make sure he has the ingredients because all the dishes are prepared from scratch and individually cooked.
Most starters are around the £5 mark and the Tom Yum soups are a good option. You can choose from chicken, prawn and fish and decide how hot you’d like it. As a main the Mee Krop, available in chicken or prawn, is sure to leave your mouth watering and the fried crispy noodles, with pickled garlic and egg, merge to produce one of the most famous Thai dishes going. Most mains are around £12 and for such a small establishment there is a good variety of choice on the menu including a vast array of curries. There are also loads of vegetarian dishes.
The DrinkSiam is an unlicensed venue but you're allowed to bring your own booze and they don’t charge you for corkage. Soft drinks are available.
The Last WordService with a smile plus home-cooked, top-notch Thai cuisine and a chef and cosy restaurant all to yourself. What more can you ask for?
