After attending the Fox for a relaxing lunch, paying for 2 adults and on child 5yrs asked for a bowl for 2yr old. A member of staff appeared from the kitchen shouting we could not have a bowl I ask why? he still was shouting very threatening saying he had heard about us upsetting his partner, asking her to wash down a dirty high chair, I did ask a member of staff to wash an chair weeks before as she had said we could not have bowl if the little one sat on a chair. He then carried on shouting. My daughter asked him to stop as it was upsetting the children also a 6month old baby at the time was a sleep but! not for long. He shouted you are barred, I ask why? asking for a bowl, We went and sat down, started our lunches never had time to finish or our drinks, when he appeared at the table asking us to leave right in my face very threatening. I am a pensioner we have been going here for 7yrs. He went to grab me as I held my grandson. I said I will take this further. His reply is I am the manager Andy and they will do nothink you will be wasting our time. If Michell & Butlers do do nothink the matter will be took legally. This is false Advertising "family friendley" The last 18months + it has gone down hill. Rude nasty staff.
Food varies from day to day but generally for the money Ok. Staff are not really welcoming for the most part and the only reason why a lot of people go is because it’s cheap so you tend to put up with the crap from the staff. Having said that we’ve made our last visit to the Fox yesterday (14/04/2012). This is after complaining about waiting for a drink at the bar for more than 10 minutes. There was no staff at the bar serving. It was only when I shouted “Bar” that a member of the staff turned up and got abusive after I complained that no one was serving and she told me to leave if I didn’t like it. So I did.
Looked a bit shabby. (But I think a refurbishment is just about to take place). Our table was very sticky. The waitress filled up cutlery on all the tables around us, but ignored ours which only had two sets. (there were four of us) We were ignored for a long time, so went and got our carvery.( I thought they usually came to the table to confirm whether we were all having carvery or whether we wanted something from the menu?) Just as I was served, the person in front had the last of the stuffing. We all had turkey, so we mentioned it. We were told there was no more available. It was 7pm and there were a lot of people after us!There was no cabbage or peas either. I was called 'Darling' twice by the waitress, which I am not over keen on!(I am 64)Having said all that, the meal itself was very tasty and enjoyable, which is probably why it was busy!! If the 'little' problems were addressed, it would be a great place to eat!!!
I forgot to change the star rateing so I am doing it now.
i have used this venue for some time now but must agree that the standards have dropped over the last 18 months or so.food is Luke warm and stodgy, some staff are ignorant and cutlery and tables usually dirty.not the sort of experience that makes you want to recommend it to others
I've been a customer of the Fox for many years but in the last few years it has really gone downhill, it has deteriorated so much in the standard of both its food and service that my friends and myself no longer wish to use the place.
Among my complaints I list, dirty tables, filthy cutlery, cabbage that is rancid, steak that you can not chew, cremated roast potatoes, lumpy mash, and the last time was stomach ache.
I have had far better meals in a transport cafe, be warned avoid this venue.
I have used the Fox carvery on quite a few occasions and found the food to be not the best but ok , however, today was a new low. The staff were extremely rude and the tables were strewn with dirty plates that were not cleaned away the whole time i was there. A member of staff would not give me a bowl for my baby daughter until i confirmed that my child was in a high chair, even though i had payed for five adult meals. The female staff member then told me i was not allowed to put any food from the the carvery in the bowl that instead i had to transfer food from my plate into the bowl. When i tried to discuss this matter with the waitress she was extremely rude.when i asked for a teaspoon for my 18 month old daughter they said they had none and threw a tablespoon at me. I will never eat at this pit again!
A very dissatisfied customer
I visited this restaurant with my husband and my 2 year old daughter. The staff were horrible. They refused to give my husband a plate for my little girl so as she could have some dinner of my plate, they claimed she could only have a bowl. I got a plate myself and gave her a small amount. The waitress then went to the manager who was very very rude, i explained that my daughter eats her dinner off a plate and has a desert in a bowl. (i always thought that this was correct) The manager then took my dinner and my husbands dinner of us. However he said my daughter could finish hers (which was on plate) there is alot more to this but i just want to warn people especially those with children. I will never ever ever go to this restaurant again and i will warn people that this is NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY the choice is yours.
was worried about the previous reviews but decided to give it a chance , so glad I did the meal was lovely and the restaurant was fairly busy for a tuesday lunchtime proving that I couldnt be the only one happy with the place . Really enjoyed my meal as did my fellow diners , especially as we had a discount voucher too !! Even so Id still go back without the discount .
Cheap and cheerful! Great value for money! We are frequent users and have never really been disappointed! We are going to book for Christmas this year.
We have been visiting The Fox in Walmley for a number of years now, where the food hasn't been to bad not the best but you get wjhat you pay for!!
We have been in today for a Carvery & I now think the food has reached the pits. A new Turkey arrived (a crown) with out legs it was over cooked and dry like soggy plastic.
The Potatoes I think came from the 2006 crop were over cooked and burnt not worth eating.
We complained the Manager was sorry so was I that I even went in it will be a long time before I go again.
but what can you expect for £3.50 "food that you can eat"25/07/09
A customer you have lost
Basic, cheap, carvery food, handy for a quick meal. Me and Charlotte use it regularly.
Me and my lady friend often pop in here for our sunday lunch and a few bevours and then its home to fall asleep on the couch for a few hours. I love sundays!
